Doug Cannon is a founder of Texas First Investment Management Company and has served as its Chief Investment Officer since its beginning. He has been the Portfolio Manager for the Texas stock portfolios since their start in 2000.

 

Prior to founding Texas First, Doug was a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager for Houston-based King Investment Advisors, Inc. King manages $700 million in small, mid, and large-cap equity portfolios.

 

In 1995, Texas Business Magazine published a 27-page feature on Texas companies, based on Doug’s database of Texas-based corporations.

 

In 1993, he created the first-ever comprehensive database of Texas-based publicly-held corporations. In 1980, he created the first comprehensive list of Dallas-based corporations, which was featured in “D” (Dallas) Magazine.

 

In 1989, he was appointed by former President George Bush as the Deputy Executive Director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, a federal government entity. He was responsible for the investment management of $4.2 billion of pension assets.

 

Doug began his career in 1976, researching Southwest-based companies as an investment analyst for the Dallas-based securities firm Rauscher Pierce Securities, Inc. (now part of RBC Dain Rauscher, Inc.)

 

His educational background includes an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BS/BBA from the Wharton School of Business. He is A Chartered Financial Analyst.

 

Doug is a member of the CFA Institute, and has been a lecturer for the Dallas and Houston Investment Analyst Societies. He is on the Board of Directors of the Harvard University Alumni Club of Houston, and has served on the Government Advisory Committee of the Greater Houston Partnership. He played Texas high school football, and is an Eagle Scout.
